The literature information center (LIC)

The literature information center (LIC) was founded by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic with the aim to support literature that was developed in Slovakia, as well as their authors and translators in material and organizational ways.

The main tasks of the LICs are:

  • to follow developments in the field of literature in Slovakia and abroad, to collect the relevant documents and to establish a database with relevant information,
  • to support the dissemination of Slovak literature abroad,
  • to support the cooperation between cultural institutions, prominent personalities of the literary life, translators and publishers abroad, and to foster their activities associated with the spread of Slovak literature,
  • to provide scholarships for translator residencies in Slovakia
  • to publish books and periodicals in Slovak language as well as in major foreign languages,
  • to organize literary conferences, seminars, discussions, meetings with authors and translators,
  • to organize the participation of Slovak publishers at the international book fairs, and
  • to provide the general public and state institutions with relevant information
